Love story

It’s hard to pick one specific moment since the whole day was everything I wanted it to be and more, but if I had to pick one, it was probably getting to do our first look together, just the two of us. Like everyone told us, it was hard to be alone & calm throughout most of the day, so getting this time together, just the two of us was a really special moment that we got to share together.

I think the two most important things I took away from our wedding day is that it’s totally fine for things to not go perfectly/as you planned it. The wrong playlist got put on during our cocktail hour, our dog wouldn’t cooperate, I was a bit late walking down the aisle because my dress got stuck in the door – things happen, and it’s totally okay. You and your partner (and anyone who helped you plan!) are probably the only ones who are going to know that it didn’t go exactly to plan. The second thing is to make sure you have some alone time with your partner. My husband and I are both introverts, so having a day all about us got a bit overwhelming, and it was lovely having a separate space for us to go to and just be alone for 5 minutes with no interruptions.

We are actually both quite non-traditional, and the first on both sides of our immediate families to get married, so there wasn’t any big traditions that we included in our wedding day. In fact, we both made decisions to cut very traditional things including parent-child dances, a formal cake cutting and a first dance since that wasn’t true to who we were as a couple. I did however include two reserved chairs both our ceremony & reception for two of my husbands immediate relatives who unfortunately passed just before we got engaged. I planned this as a bit more of a surprise for my husband and his family to honour those two members of his family who couldn’t be with us to celebrate our big day.
